The Rules
From Garry's Goons
- Rules are needed to provide order. We first experimented with a more passive approach regarding rules on the servers. As the community has grown, we (the server operators), have decided that we need some sort of system to maintain order. The following rules are made to not be a burden, instead we hope that they can provide a better environment for us in Gmod.
The Law of the Land
These rules apply to everyone that plays on a goon server. Make sure you know these.
- 1. You are expected to read the Basics Tutorials in the Goon Wiki.
- 2. You have the right to ask for help if the wiki does not answer your question. You might be ignored. If this happens, ask a staffer, ask in the thread.
- 3. Ignorance is not an excuse. If you did not follow rule 1, and ask a question relating to rule 1, expect to be kicked.
- 4. Ask before touching anything that you yourself did not spawn. This includes copying anyone else's work, ask them first.
- 5. There is no such thing as implied consent - ALWAYS assume that you shouldn't do anything to someone else or their project.
- 6. You are not allowed to deathmatch on goon servers. For certain activities this rule may be relaxed by staff currently on the server.
- 7. Griefing, retaliation, and revenge are not in the spirit of GMod. If you have an issue, report it to the staff, do not take action yourself.
- 8. Some things can cause gmod servers to crash. If you suspect you are causing lag, or are leading toward a crash, STOP. You are expected to read the wiki guide on Lag and Crash Reduction and follow the directions.
- 9. Full games cause a lot of strain on servers. Make sure you scale your play style accordingly.
- 10. Clean up after yourself. Do not spawn thousands of props, then just leave them or quit the server. (Hint: All your props are tagged with your name, even if you leave)
- 11. The point of Garry's Mod is not to spawn a hundred fusion gens or barrels (or 40 howitzers) and blow them all up. You crash people and servers this way.
- 12.Admins have the final say on what you can and can not do on the server. Follow their directions.
By playing on the goon servers, you fully agree to follow these rules at all times.
Punishments
- If you break one of the rules above, then a staff member will likely probation you or ban you.
- For most non-serious to moderately serious offenses, you will get a probation ban from as little as a few minutes to as much as a week. Before an admin gives you a probation/temp ban, they will give you the reason for your ban and how long it will last. It is up to the admins discretion to decide on how long your temporary ban will be. Admins do not need to ask permission from the server operator or other admins before administering a temp ban. As for temp bans lasting LONGER than one week all the way through permanent bans, the admins are encouraged to ban the offending user first, and then mention the time and reason to the server op. To make sure that an offending user is removed from the server asap, we have a ban first / approve later policy. It only takes 2 minutes to reverse a ban, so if found to be too severe, it can be fixed easily.
Again:
- Mild to moderate infractions result in a probation ban that may last from as little as 1 minute to as much as 7 days. Admins don't need to get permission from anyone else and do not need to report this to anyone. Before temp banning, make sure to tell the user the reason and amount.
- Severe infractions result in temp bans over a week long, all the way up to permanent bans. Admins do not need permission, but they should report the ban to the server op afterward.
Admins with rubber bullets
Admins need to follow rules too. We don't want to have uncontrollable staffers doing anything they want.
- 1. Act properly, and be a role model for others.
- 2. Don't abuse your powers. They are there for you to keep order, not create disorder.
- 3. Take an active role in maintaining order.
- 4. If you see something, act accordingly, don't let things slide.
- 5. Use your experience to help others.
- 6. Use the probation system accordingly.
Punishments for Admins
It is CRUCIAL that any player abused by a staffer contact the server operator and tell them. If admins abuse you but you don't say anything, how can anything be done? Please contact the server op.
For admins, the punishment would be thought up by the server operators and 3-4 other trusted admins and will probably be hilariously humiliating.
