Gcombat
From Garry's Goons
Gcombat is an impressive damage/weapon system based on RTS rules. There is a tutorial that will follow that explains how to use it. Please follow these rules though.
Rules
Gcombat can lag and crash servers easily. To prevent this:
- Never EVER allow a fired shell or round to fall back on the cannon or munitions crate that spawned it. This almost certainly crashes the server. So don't shoot a tank gun straight up, or the round will land on the same gun and crash the server. Blowing up enemy cannons or munitions is fine, just not your own.
- Some guns are very overpowered and laggy. In the basic gcombat pack, please try sticking to tank guns in combat, they are balanced and have less risk of crashing or lag. Stay away from Flak88 or Nerbwerfer... especially nerbwerfer. It has a lot of rockets, and a lot of lag.
- Common sense: Gcombat guns can destroy any item they are fired at, so please don't shoot your gun at people who don't want their projects destroyed.
- There are other guns out there, other special missiles, some things that work with tiberium, plasma bombs, shockwave missiles. Be careful with those. Your best bet is to ask more experienced players about them, as they can help you use it properly and not crash the server.
- This concerns tiberium, but since they are related I am including this with Gcombat. Please do not spawn tiberium towers unless given permission from all other players present, unless an admin is there, then ask them. Tiberium towers are supposed to be admin only, and due to bad coding by the developer, they currently are not. They can lag, crash, explode, so please if there is no admin present, don't do it, and if you must, ask everyone first. Ask admins if they are there.
- Some cannons, such as the tank gun, also cause an explosion from the barrel when fired. So if you happen to fire the cannon next to your munitions it damages them and eventually causes them to explode.
Weapons
There are several different weapons in Gcombat for people to choose from, and they all have strengths and weaknesses.
- Munitions Crate
- The Munitions Crate is not actually a weapon, but the ammunition that most Gcombat weapons use. Each crate spawns with 4000 ammo, and they can be linked to guns and each other using the life support link tool.
- Flak88
- Requires 50 munitions per shot.
- Fires a red laser that can be detonated at a certain distance, or whenever it hits an object.
- Will overheat and damage itself if it is fired continuously for too long.
- Nebelwerfer
- Requires 700 Munitions per barrage.
- Fires several bullet like projectiles that produce massive damage.
- Creates tremendous lag so don't use it a lot.
- Deathray
- Requires 600 energy per shot.
- Unlike other Gcombat weaponry, the Deathray consumes life support energy to fire instead of Munitions.
- 2pdr Gun
- Requires 250 Munitions per shot
- Tank Gun
- Has two firing modes, AP and HE.
- Requires 100 Munitions per shot, regardless of type of shot being used.
- Dumb Rocket Battery
- Requires 650 Munitions per barrage.
- Torpedo(dumb)
- Air Strike Radio
How to wire up a Gcombat Weapon
Gcombat is a bit tricky to wire up because it uses both Wire Mod and Life Support elements. To provide the weapon with ammo, you have to link it to Munitions or Energy, while to get the actual weapon to fire, you have to wire it up to a wire mod input, such as a button or numpad input.
Here is a diagram to give you an idea of how it should all look. The solid lines are wires(created by the wire tool), the dotted line is a link(created by the link tool).
Of course, if you are using the Deathray, the Munitions Crate would instead be an energy storage device, such as a Large or Small Energy Cell. For more information on these devices, see the Life Support article.
